Cruze through West ends in arrest, South Australia

A man will face court today after trying to evade police in the Western suburbs overnight.

About 9.20pm Monday 6 April police spotted a Gold Holden Cruze travelling at high speed on Marlborough Street at Henley Beach. Police attempted to pull the car over but it refused to stop and sped off along Tapleys Hill Road.

Police briefly pursued the car but terminated due to safety. Investigations revealed the car had allegedly been involved in a petrol drive off earlier in the night, at about 8.30pm at a petrol station on Sir Donald Bradman Drive, Hilton.

Later, about 11.50pm, police observed a Gold Holden Cruze with no number plates travelling west on Sir Donald Bradman Drive before turning noto Tapleys Hill Road. Police did not pursue the car but observed it travelling north before losing sight of it around Henley Beach Road.

Patrols called in extra crews to search the area then just after midnight, Tuesday 7 April, patrols found the car dumped at a unit complex on HMAS Australia Road.

As police were with the abandoned car a man was seen walking back toward the vehicle. When he saw police he allegedly turned and ran away but he was quickly caught by waiting patrols.

A search of the 39-year-old man Mile End allegedly uncovered the key to the Holden Cruze. The man has been charged with fail to stop, engaging in a police pursuit, make off without payment, drive unlicenced, drive without number plates, refuse name and address and hinder police.

He was been refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

Police seized the Holden Cruze and investigations into if it was stolen are ongoing.
