Cyber resources for small businesses

Australian Cyber Security Centre

Over 60 small businesses and government representatives were in attendance to hear about the suite of free products the ACSC develop to support small to medium businesses in Australia with their cyber security.

The morning saw the launch of a bespoke downloadable seminar for SMEs and peak bodies to deliver their own training to staff. The seminar was part of the Australian Government’s beat cybercrime in your downtime awareness campaign, designed to encourage Australians to protect themselves against a range of cyber threats and drive them to cyber.gov.au.

QA Business founder Clayton Oates delivered the seminar, which was filmed and is now available here on ACSC’s Vimeo. The presentation referenced materials and resources hosted on the cyber security campaign resources section of the website.

Our latest Annual Cyber Threat Report shows that last financial year ACSC had 67,500 cybercrime reports from Australians. That was an increase of 13 per cent over the previous financial year, and self-reported financial losses due to cybercrime in Australia-based cybercrime reports totalled more than $33 billion (AUD). ACSCs threat report also highlighted small businesses made a higher number of cybercrime reports than in the previous financial year.

The ACSC have tailored products that give the right advice, at the right time, in language that business owners and employees can understand and implement. These products include:

  • threat advisories;
  • an alert service;
  • invitations to ACSC events to help small and medium-sized enterprises keep up-to-date with relevant cyber security information for their businesses;
  • step-by-step guides to help businesses implement effective cyber security practices; and
  • free ‘seminar in a box’ resource packs, complete with speaking notes, real-life case studies and social media content, to be used for your business and to help your employees, customers, and suppliers become more cyber secure.

Businesses are encouraged to join the ACSC Partnership Program to provide them with a better understanding of the cyber security landscape and the steps required to protect themselves from cyber security threats.

The ACSC’s cyber security advice and assistance is available to all Australians via the online learning page.
