Dangerous drive charges after two men hit by car at Lismore, NSW

A man will face court today after allegedly deliberately hitting two pedestrians with his car in the state’s north.

About 6.15pm last Thursday (9 December 2021), a 20-year-old man was using a payphone near a shopping centre on Diadem Street, Lismore, when he was approached by a 35-year-old man known to him.

Police have been told an argument ensued before the younger man began running down the street, chased by the other man.

A 53-year-old man – who is known to both men – then drove past the pair, conducted a U-turn and allegedly drove directly at them, knocking them to the ground.

The injured men were treated at the scene before being taken to Lismore Base Hospital.

The 53-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and was also taken to Lismore Base Hospital, where he was held under police guard while treated for unrelated injuries.

He was released the following day (Friday 10 December 2021), and taken to Lismore Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of drive furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm, (comma needed) and one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous.

The North Lismore man was granted strict conditional bail before his appearance in Lismore Local Court today (Wednesday 15 December 2021).
