Darwin artist debuts new street art on Townsville Police Station

Meet the mind behind Townsville’s newest addition to the Townsville City Council Street Art Trail at the mural launch this Friday.

Artist Hafleg has travelled from Darwin to create the new mural and to host a workshop for local artists to learn spray paint techniques.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson, Councillor Colleen Doyle, said it was fantastic to be able to add to Townsville’s Street Art Trail.

“Council has a vibrant street art trail across Townsville City and we’re thrilled to be able to add to it with Hafleg’s new piece at Townsville Police Station,” Cr Doyle said.

“Hafleg has been a major contributor to Darwin’s street art landscape and I’m excited to see the finished piece.”

Cr Doyle said Hafleg’s visit to Townsville was also a great opportunity to learn from a professional artist.

“The workshop that will be held at Murray Skate Park at Annandale is an excellent chance for aspiring artists to learn spray painting techniques from an established muralist,” she said.

“All materials will be provided to Townsville City Galleries, so all you have to do is show up in sun safe clothing.”

The street mural launch will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, 20 March at Townsville Police Station on the corner of Stanley and Sturt streets.

The workshop with Hafleg will run from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday, 21 March at Murray Skate Park. Both events are free to attend.
