Death in custody at Townsville Correctional Centre

Queensland Corrective Services can confirm that Queensland Police Service is investigating the death of a 47-year-old prisoner at Townsville Correctional Centre this morning.

The man, who was in a single occupancy cell was located by officers early this morning in a secure unit.

Queensland Ambulance Service was called, but the man could not be revived.

Queensland Police Service was notified of the incident and we are assisting them with the matter.

Custodial officer assaulted A custodial corrections officer from Woodford Correctional Centre was airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital this afternoon with serious facial injuries following an alleged assault by a prisoner.
