A Macquarie Park small business will work with Defence to develop cutting-edge technology for ships, submarines and aircraft after being awarded a contract worth nearly $1 million through the Morrison Government’s Defence Innovation Hub.

Sonartech Atlas will develop a mobile software system capable of analysing contemporary communications transmissions in the maritime environment.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Melissa Price MP, announced the contract with Sonartech Atlas at PACIFIC 2019, highlighting that the $940,000 contract would deliver a prototype system to enhance operational capability.

“We don’t need to look very far when it comes to groundbreaking technology and support for our defence force – Australian businesses continue to be at the forefront of innovation in the defence industry,” Minister Price said.

Federal Member for Bennelong, John Alexander OAM MP, said the $640 million Defence Innovation Hub was one way the government was helping local businesses work with Defence.

“Sonartech Atlas is a great example of a Bennelong business taking advantage of the opportunities created through our record $200 billion investment in defence capability,” he said.

“It’s great to see a local business delivering world-leading technology that has the potential to greatly enhance Navy’s operations at sea.”
