Dementia Australia congratulates Lynette Chester AM for her inclusion in the Australia Day Honours as a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Ms Chester has been honoured for her significant service to community health, particularly to people living with dementia and their families.
Ms Chester has had an invaluable association with Dementia Australia* for many years, as a founding Board member and former President of Alzheimer’s Australia WA, in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Throughout the 90s, Ms Chester held numerous, national, governance roles within the former federation of Alzheimer’s Australia.
The Mary Chester Centre facility in Perth, a respite care and services centre, was named after Lynette’s mother who was diagnosed at 50. It opened in 1993 following extensive community engagement and fundraising.
Ms Chester was also a founding member of the Dementia Australia Research Foundation* in 1998, where she served for two years. This organisation was the first national research foundation for dementia.
Dementia Australia Executive Director Business Development Leanne Emerson said on behalf of all people impacted by dementia I wish to acknowledge Ms Chester for her commitment to increasing the understanding of dementia and improving the care and health outcomes for all people of all ages, living with all forms of dementia, particularly in Western Australia.
