Devonport City Council invites community members to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) for membership in its various Working Groups and Committees. These groups play a vital role in advising Council on a wide range of programs, including cultural initiatives, and accessibility improvements for the community, and help to shape a more vibrant and inclusive Devonport. The EOI period is currently open and will close on Friday, 29 November 2024.
“Our Working Groups and Committees are essential in ensuring that Council decisions reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of our community. We encourage residents to bring their unique perspectives and expertise to these groups,” said Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman.
Council’s Access and Inclusion Working Group is seeking new members to support the goals outlined in the Disability Inclusion Plan 2020-2025, striving to foster a more accessible and inclusive community for all. This group assists Council by advising on practical measures to reduce barriers and improve accessibility across the region.
The Bass Strait Maritime Centre Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee is also seeking new members passionate about Devonport’s cultural heritage. This committee plays a crucial role in supporting the Maritime Centre’s operations and advising on the management and promotion of Devonport’s cultural heritage.
In addition, the Devonport Regional Gallery Advisory Committee welcomes those with a keen interest in the visual arts and public art to provide guidance on expanding the Gallery’s cultural impact. This committee helps Council in enhancing Devonport’s visual arts presence and engaging the public in cultural activities.
The East Devonport Working Group seeks input from residents to advise on programs, community activities and actively advocate for East Devonport. Community members involved in this group will play an instrumental role in supporting and enriching the East Devonport community.
Alongside these working groups, the Devonport Youth Advisory Group (DEVYAG) is also currently seeking new members. DEVYAG provides a unique opportunity for young people aged 14 – 21 years old to make their voices heard on issues affecting Devonport’s youth. Council invites young residents interested in community leadership and youth advocacy to apply for this opportunity.
Devonport City Council extends its gratitude to past and current members who have served on these committees and working groups, helping make valuable contributions to our community.
