All aboard for plenty of fun – the Diamond Creek Regional Playspace and Tram Café will open this weekend.
The eagerly anticipated $2.5 million playspace and the Diamond Creek Rotary Tram Café will open on Saturday 31 October after six months of preparation.
They will be just the ticket for kids and grown-ups alike.
There will be plenty of activities to explore with accessible play equipment and areas for younger and older children featuring flying foxes, parkour, climbing structures, swings, slides, a sandpit, nature play and cubby houses.
The playspace theme references Diamond Creek’s gold mining history with a replica poppet head a feature. Children can try “mining” for gold in the sandpit using the play equipment.
Look out for the digital play experience, offering a unique way to further explore and experience the playspace.
There are also barbecues, picnic shelters, seats and tables, making it the perfect place to enjoy a day out.
A highlight is the historic Tram Cafe, which was carefully restored by the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek and a host of volunteers.
It is a welcome stop on the Diamond Creek Trail for visitors, walkers and cyclists.
Parking is available in the upgraded car park adjacent to the bowls club, as well as across the creek at Campbell Reserve. A new gravel car park is currently being constructed.
The playspace was funded by the Victorian Government with a $2.5 million from the Department and Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
It has also been an important community collaboration with groups including the Rotary Club of Diamond Creek, Valley Community Financial Services Limited (Bendigo Bank), the Diamond Valley Lions Club, Men’s Shed and all the volunteers, sponsors and supporters.
The new playspace is expected to be very popular. Visitors are asked to follow the Victorian Government COVID-19 restrictions including social distancing, wearing a face mask if over 12 years of age, and practising good hand hygiene.
Council looks forward to holding an official opening celebration at a future date.
