Following significant input from the Landsborough community, Sunshine Coast Council is pleased to announce the draft Landsborough Place Making Master Plan is now open for review and feedback.
The plan captures the community’s vision for the town and outlines place making recommendations for Landsborough’s streets, public spaces and looks at future opportunities.
Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said council had taken the feedback from the previous ‘visions and values’ community engagement and translated that into a draft plan.
“This is the community’s chance to verify that we have gotten it right so far and if you haven’t been involved as yet, to jump in now and help shape the future of Landsborough,” Cr Baberowski said.
“As part of the consultation to date, we heard that Landsborough should be a place that is easy to get around, become a stronger destination with an attractive town centre, all the while retaining its country town look and feel.
“It should also become a livelier, better integrated local shopping precinct and retain a strong sense of connection to its rural heritage and gateway role to the hinterland.”
Place Development and Design Portfolio Councillor Peter Cox said council was delivering on its commitment to be a healthy, smart and creative region through initiatives like the implementation of place making opportunities which aim to improve the character and value of the towns here on the Sunshine Coast.
“What defines the character of a place or town is its public space,” Cr Cox said.
“How successfully this is maximised, depends on how well government and communities work together.
“The Landsborough place making project is a terrific example of council and Landsborough residents coming together to shape and activate streets.
“I urge all residents to have their say at the upcoming information sessions or via an online survey available on council’s website.”
While the main aim of the consultation is to seek feedback on the master plan, the project team is hoping to hear from residents their preliminary ideas of what can be achieved through the streetscape beautification program proposed for Cribb Street.
As the design progresses throughout the year, the community will have the opportunity to provide further feedback with a reference group soon to be formed.
