Directors Appointed To Further Boost Governance At GOTAFE

  • Minister for Training and Skills

Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney today announced the appointment of 33 directors for Victoria’s TAFEs, further strengthening the sector across the state, following unprecedented investment from the Andrews Labor Government.

An independently-chaired panel supported by a professional recruitment firm were engaged to help select the TAFE directors, with specific consideration given to the strategic priorities of each TAFE and further boosting diversity on TAFE boards.

The public Expression of Interest process saw more than 300 people apply for the positions, with 100 candidates interviewed. Of the 33 appointments made, 27 are incumbent board members and six are new appointees.

The appointments for the GOTAFE Institute are as follows:

  • Ms Catherine Scott
  • Ms Diana Taylor
  • Ms Angela Verde

The appointed directors have a strong mix of skills in corporate governance, vocational training and education, finance, law, and business, together with links to the local community and industry.

With the latest round of appointments, women now occupy 52 per cent of ministerially appointed Victorian TAFE board positions, exceeding the Labor Government’s policy for women to make up at least 50 percent of all government appointments made to Victorian Government boards and court positions.

As stated by Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney

“Victoria’s TAFEs are large public institutions – it is vital they’re governed by people with the right skills and experience.”

“These directors will boost the strategic and governance capacity of Victoria’s publicly-owned TAFE institutes, and continue to drive a high quality vocational training system in Victoria.”
