Disqualified driver in court over police pursuit in Ermington

A disqualified driver will face court today charged over an alleged police pursuit through Sydney’s west.

Just after 11am on Wednesday (12 February 2020), officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended a home in Spurway Street, Ermington, for a traffic-related matter when they allegedly spotted the Volkswagen Golf involved drive away from the property.

It will be alleged the Volkswagen failed to stop when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over.

A police pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Following inquiries, the vehicle was located without any occupants behind a shopping complex in Ermington. The Volkswagen was seized to undergo forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, a 19-year-old man was arrested at a property in Spurway Street, Ermington, about 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday 13 February 2020).

He was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, and drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.

Police will allege in court that the man was disqualified from driving until 2021.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 14 February 2020).

Investigations continue.
