Double limit in Wodonga

A Sydney man will face a series of charges after being caught travelling at 174km/h in an 80 zone in Wodonga last night.

Wodonga Highway Patrol members were conducting speed checks as part of Operation Nexus on the Hume Freeway at Wodonga about 9.10pm.

A vehicle caught their attention when it was detected doing 174km/h in a 110 zone.

The vehicle then hit an 80km/h zone and allegedly made no effort to slow down despite the wet conditions.

Police conducted a check of the man’s registration details and discovered it had expired.

An inspection of the vehicle also found that his front two tyres were unroadworthy.

He is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous, unregistered vehicle, excessive speed and driving an unroadworthy vehicle.

His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days at the cost of $1115.

This impound forms part of Operation Nexus, a five-day focus on keeping our community safe on the roads during the Easter long weekend.

The state-wide operation aims to reduce road trauma, including the number of lives lost and injuries on our roads.

During this time motorists can expect to be breath tested and drug tested, have their vehicles scanned and be checked for speeding.

The operation involves all available personnel including local road policing units, general duties, other operational policing units and centralised resources from Road Policing Command.

The operation started at 12.01am on Thursday 9 April and concludes at 11.59pm on Monday 13 April
