Labor’s infrastructure spokesperson Dr Shane Broad has confirmed that, after half a decade in opposition and just two years after an election, Labor still has absolutely no alternative vision or plan for Greater Hobart traffic.
Demonstrating his woeful grasp of his portfolio issues in today’s Greater Hobart Traffic Congestion Inquiry, Dr Broad’s rambling contribution failed to provide a single new idea to help commuters.
When asked about the vital Bridgewater Bridge replacement project, Dr Broad could not answer questions about what Labor’s version of a replacement bridge looked like, or why Labor spent the money allocated for the Bridge.
In this year’s State Budget, we brought forward $1 million to deliver our election commitment to investigate alternative traffic routes through Hobart. This project is underway and we are actively considering all possible options, whether it be bypass roads, tunnels, or a mix of both.
Dr Broad displayed an embarrassing ignorance of the Government’s current work in this area, preferring to waffle about international tunnel projects.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government has already recognised the pressure on Hobart’s roads and we have a clear plan for the short, medium and long-term to address the challenges, and we are delivering on our plan.
Labor, on the other hand, are all armchair criticism – but zero solutions.
