Driver dies after hatchback hits power pole in Sylvania

A man has died following a crash at Sylvania overnight.

Emergency services were called to the Princes Highway about 7.30pm (Saturday 18 July 2020), after a Toyota Corolla hatchback left the road and struck a power pole.

The 30-year-old driver was trapped within the wreckage for almost an hour before he was released by officers from Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance. He was the only person in the vehicle.

The man was taken to St George Hospital suffering multiple injuries but died en route.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) were called in with traffic impacted for some hours while the scene was examined and the wreckage removed. Electricity crews worked throughout the night on the damaged power pole.

Investigators are keen to speak with anyone with information about this crash, or any motorists who may have been in the area and have dashcam which recorded the events leading up to the crash.
