A driver has been arrested after allegedly running from the scene of a hit and run in Sydney’s north west this afternoon.
About 12.30pm today (Sunday 23 August 2026), emergency services were called to Ferndale Avenue, near Edinburgh Avenue, Carlingford, after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.
Officers attached to The Hills Police Area Command attended and found that a Nissan van had hit a pedestrian before the driver of the van allegedly ran from the scene on foot.
The pedestrian – a 34-year-old man – was trapped under the vehicle and emergency services worked to free him, before NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 34-year-old at the scene.
He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition for further treatment.
Following a search of nearby bushland, police arrested the alleged driver – a 29-year-old man – before taking him to Castle Hill Police Station.
Police have established a crime scene, and officers from Crash Investigation Unit have commenced an investigation into the incident.
