Drug Intervention Centre moving forward

  • Cyrenian House appointed to operate new low-medical withdrawal service
  • Midland Intervention Centre delivers on recommendation from the Methamphetamine Action Plan Taskforce Report
  • A new low-medical withdrawal unit for people with methamphetamine and other drug issues will open in the first quarter of next year with $1.7 million allocated by the McGowan Government to Cyrenian House to operate the service.

The Midland Intervention Centre was established in response to the Methamphetamine Action Plan Taskforce Report.

It will provide a short-term, community based, critical response for those experiencing a period of instability due to their alcohol and other drug (AOD) use.

The low-medical withdrawal service will incorporate fast-tracked planned access, an extended length of stay to assist in the stabilisation of mood and behavioural issues, assertive engagement and follow up, and family support for people with methamphetamine and other drug issues.

The six-bed facility is expected to support up to 117 people per year to withdraw from drug and alcohol issues and facilitate referral into treatment and additional support options, so they can go on to live fulfilling and healthy lives within our community.

Cyrenian House, which has been operating as a specialist alcohol and other drug treatment and support service since 1981, will be the operator of the new service

They are one of more than a hundred service providers that deliver alcohol, other drug or mental heath services to Western Australians, which are funded by the WA Government.
