East Mall to become vibrant community space

Armidale Regional Council

The eastern end of the Beardy Street Mall in Armidale will undergo a major transformation turning it into a vibrant and active public space for the community to enjoy.

A new project has been launched that will see the development of a detailed concept plan for upgrades to the area commonly known as the East Mall, Beardy Street.

“As a result of feedback received during the exhibition of the Mall Vibrancy Plan in 2017 it was confirmed that the East Mall needed to be reviewed as the current arrangements were not working and the overall look and feel of the East Mall streetscape needed to be addressed,” said Mayor Sam Coupland.

“The main intention of this project is to develop detailed concept designs that are supported by the community and endorsed by Council so that the East Mall can be transformed into a vibrant, active and connected public space.

“Armidale is such a vibrant and inspiring city to live and work in and we want that reflected in our public spaces like East Mall.

“The East Mall project will involve multiple rounds of public consultation with key dates to be announced throughout the project.

Feedback from the community and key stakeholders (business owners and landowners) will be critical to producing a plan that is supported by the Armidale community and eventually endorsed by Council.

Public consultation will occur via project updates on Council’s website (including opportunities to Have-Your-Say), on social media, in-person at a ‘shop front’ operation which will be held in the Mall at key stages throughout the project and at Council meetings.

Key stakeholder consultation will occur at designated meetings with Council staff, Councillors, the consultants.
