Edithvale’s new state-of-the-art Life Saving Club officially opened
The new $5.75 million Edithvale Life Saving Club was officially opened on Saturday 14 March with the community and long-time club members turning out for a tour of the new purpose-built facility.
The new club was built through a partnership between Kingston Council and the Victorian Government and was launched by Kingston Mayor Georgina Oxley, Parliamentary Secretary for Police and Emergency Services Paul Edbrooke and local MP Tim Richardson.
Cr Georgina Oxley said she was thrilled to see this important community facility completed and ready for use. “Every summer around 22,000 visitors flock to Edithvale beach and it’s vital that the Life Saving Club has the facilities it needs to ensure the public’s safety in the water.”
“Founded in 1918, the club has served the community for 100 years and this redevelopment will ensure the club’s future for decades to come.”
Kingston Council has invested significantly in successfully upgrading and replacing local Life Saving Clubs in recent years including the Carrum Life Saving Club and the Mordialloc Life Saving Club, and it has just approved a $14.5 million redevelopment of Mentone Life Saving Club and foreshore precinct.
