Eidecan Returns Battle of Bands ready to hit stage

Some of Toowoomba’s most exciting young musicians are warming up to hit the stage at Toowoomba State High School as part of the Battle of the Bands this Friday 17 June.

Hosted by Regional Youth Leaders, the Battle of the Bands will be a standout opportunity for musicians and bands, with a majority of members aged 12 to 25, to showcase their talents. It will give them an opportunity to make industry connections and kickstart their musical careers.

Toowoomba Regional Council Environment and Community Committee Chair Cr James O’Shea said he was amped to see the line-up of talent that will be on show.

“The program of great local bands, many of whom have been preforming regularly with local gigs, like Shark Drive, Two Time Shy, Palinola, Tomb of the Tyrant, and Without A Doubt will make for an exciting and high energy night,” he said.

“Solo entrants Cade Gieger and Leora Dowling are also ready to shine and wow our local judges.”

Toowoomba Youth Leader Kerenza Herndon said he was thrilled have a wealth of music, industry knowledge and mentoring from the judges.

“We are excited that Australia Indigenous singer-song writer Sue Ray, USQ Lecturer in Contemporary Music, Song writing and Production, Mark Sholtes and local venue owner and musician, Kosta Theodosis are available to be our judges for the evening,” Kerenza said.

“They have so much experience to share and this will be an exciting opportunity for the competitors – whether they win or not.

“I don’t envy the position they will be in to hand out the $7000 in prizes.”

Councillor O’Shea said, “We want these artists to have a room full of energy and support – don’t miss the Battle at the Toowoomba State High School Preforming Arts Centre on Friday. Doors open from 5pm with performances from 5.30pm.”

Make sure to book your free tickets via the Toowoomba Regional Council’s Battle of the Bands website.

“Make sure you bring your friends or family along; it will be a fantastic and free night out,” Cr O’Shea said.

The Battle of the Bands and the Toowoomba Live and Local program are delivered as part of the Regional Arts Development Fund partnership with Toowoomba Regional Council, University of Southern Queensland, Empire Theatres, and Festival of Small Halls.
