Elderly man rescued after driving into Carngham Creek

Police rescued a man as part of a multi-agency operation after he drove into water in Carngham yesterday afternoon.

It is understood the 81-year-old from Delacombe was driving on Beaufort-Carngham Road when he missed a bridge and went into a ditch about 1.05pm.

Luckily a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction saw what happened and stopped to call Triple Zero (000) as the car was filling with water.

When police arrived, the vehicle was submerged in the creek and water had risen up to the man’s neck.

Ballarat Highway Patrol officers, along with Country Fire Authority and Ambulance Victoria, rescued the man once the vehicle had been stabilised.

People in the area also assisted with the rescue.

The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
