Emerging leaders from the Eastern Wheatbelt are now equipped with the skills they need to support their communities following the culmination of an inaugural customised leadership program.
Twenty-seven participants across private, public and not-for-profit sectors completed the five-month Eastern Wheatbelt Emerging Leaders program, consisting of online and in-person sessions.
Hosted by the Wheatbelt Development Commission in partnership with Western Australia Police and delivered by Leadership WA, the tailored program developed participants’ contemporary leadership knowledge and skills to support their career development.
Participants were fortunate to hear from Merredin’s Tully Bevilaqua, former Olympian and USA Women’s National Basketball Association championship player, on her leadership journey and opportunities growing up in the Eastern Wheatbelt.
The first of its kind in the Wheatbelt, the program has enhanced leadership capacity in the region, benefitting individuals, local businesses, and the broader community.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“Strong leadership is at the core of the sustainability and liveability of our regional towns.
“Equipping our emerging leaders with the skills needed to succeed is integral to the ongoing development and longevity of our regional communities.”
As stated by Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Regional Development Darren West:
“Capacity building and boosting leadership is important in all of our regional communities and I thank the Minister for her investment in our future.
“I wish all participants well, as future leaders across the Wheatbelt and beyond.”
