Enhancements to North and North West bus services

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering faster, more frequent and more direct bus services across the State.

Changes to the North West bus network were introduced in January this year, including the introduction of Sunday services for the first time in many towns and a new North West Express service between Devonport and Burnie.

Based on community feedback and suggestions, we’re making further enhancements to services in North and North West Tasmania, as well as intercity services between Devonport and Hobart.

The latest enhancements – to reduce transfer wait times, adding extra stops and allowing for faster intercity journeys – will commence on Sunday, 3 October 2021.

Key changes include adjusting some MerseyLink, Manions’ Coaches and Redline timetables, adding new stops in Latrobe and South Burnie and making some off-highway intercity stops on request only.

Importantly, it will be easier to connect between the high-frequency North West Express service between Burnie and Devonport, and intercity services between Devonport, Launceston, and Hobart.

The pre-booked on-request option for intercity routes means trips will be faster and more direct by staying on the highway unless there is a passenger booked to be collected or dropped off.

Services that will change on 3 October 2021 are:

* Intercity routes 700/702/705 between Devonport and Hobart operated by Redline;

* North West Express route 708 between Devonport and Burnie operated by MerseyLink;

* Devonport urban routes 170/175/178/180/182/184 operated by MerseyLink;

* Devonport school bus routes 187/188 operated by MerseyLink;

* West Tamar routes 780/782/784/788 operated by Manions’ Coaches; and

* Smithton route 768 operated by Redline.

Thank you to everyone who has provided feedback, especially our regular passengers, for helping us continue to improve Tasmania’s bus services.
