Sunshine Coast Council is calling on residents to nominate a neighbour who has shown an outstanding act of kindness during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

We all know that one person who always goes above and beyond to help someone else in their street – be it mowing their neighbour’s lawn, bringing in their rubbish bin or being an unsung hero especially during COVID-19.

Now’s the chance to shine the spotlight on our neighbourly heroes, with Council today launching its Covid Kindness Tell us Your Neighbourly Stories competition, where residents are asked to take a picture and share (in 50 words or less) inspiring stories about a neighbour or their neighbourhood during COVID-19 for the chance to win a $1500 four person evacuation kit and street party when it’s safe to do so.

Community Portfolio Councillor David Law encouraged all residents to take a moment and nominate those neighbours who have really rallied together during COVID-19.

“I am very impressed with how well the Sunshine Coast community has helped each other during this time of need,” Cr Law said.

“Council’s Sunshine Coast Community Strategy recognises the need for communities to remain strong and connected in order to thrive.

“I look forward to seeing the positive stories of our unsung neighbours, so get in quick and nominate now.”

Council’s popular Covid Kindness initiative encouraged neighbours to stay connected, informed, healthy, creative and playful.
