Mornington Peninsula Shire is reminding everyone to follow the rules to keep everyone safe.

With Stage 3 ‘Stay at Home’ restrictions currently in place throughout Metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire – including Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor Sam Hearn said it was so important that we all work together to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“I know the vast majority of our community are doing the right thing and I thank each and every one of them for their actions”.

“Of concern however is that over 550 fines have been issued by Victorian Police throughout the state which indicates some people are disregarding the restrictions”.

Mayor Hearn said in relation to exercise, it was important to reiterate that while outdoor exercise and recreation are important for an individual’s overall well-being, any outdoor activities should be undertaken within a person’s local area.

“With regard to exercise, the state government has recently reinforced this message in response to the concerns we have raised – under Stage 3 restrictions you must confine your exercise to your localised area. We thank them for this improved clarification to the restrictions”.

“That means driving down to or across the peninsula to go fishing, play golf or walk on a beach is prohibited”.

Under the directions of the Chief Health Officer, there are 4 reasons to leave your house: Shopping for food and essential items. Care and caregiving. Exercise. Work and study – if you can’t do it from home.

“Now is the right time to remind everyone to stay the course, practice good hygiene, maintain social distancing look after each other and adhere to the stay at home rules”.
