Expert group assembled to advise police on domestic and family violence

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has established a new advisory body to provide advice on key issues relating to domestic and family violence (DFV).

The DFV Advisory Group, comprising some of the state’s most renowned DFV experts, will meet quarterly to provide advice to the Service around strategy, policy and practice.

Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd said while the QPS was connected closely with many stakeholders and support services, the advisory group would provide a formal avenue for more open collaboration.

“Domestic and family violence is an incredibly complex issue and our response is continuously evolving. Having these opportunities for robust conversation with the sector is incredibly important to ensure that any decisions we make in this space are fully considered,” Assistant Commissioner Codd said.

“The DFV Advisory Group will assist the Commissioner, the Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Command and the Service as a whole in making decisions in the domestic and family violence space that are effective and victim-centric.

“We are incredibly grateful for the participation of the members of this group – we have a cross section of some of the strongest advocates and experts in the sector coming together for these important conversations.”

Betty Taylor, CEO of Red Rose Foundation said collaboration was an important factor in addressing domestic and family violence in our communities.

“We have got to work together in a positive and problem-solving space. That’s how we will find meaningful solutions to domestic and family violence,” Ms Taylor said.

The group consists of the following members.

  • Assistant Commissioner Brian Codd
  • Angela Lynch – CEO, Women’s Legal Service
  • Kelly-Ann Tansley – Former Director and Deputy CEO of DVConnect
  • Betty Taylor – CEO, Red Rose Foundation
