Exposure Draft Export Control Rules 2020 consultation

The department has today commenced public consultation on seven of the commodity specific Exposure Draft Export Control Rules 2020 (draft rules).

Deputy Secretary Agricultural Trade Group, David Hazlehurst, said the consultation was another opportunity for our export industries and trading partners to provide further input into the draft rules.

“The draft rules support growth and innovation while maintaining the standards our trading partners expect,” Mr Hazlehurst said.

The draft rules – available on the department’s Have Your Say platform – will set out the operational requirements that must be met to export goods from Australia.

They will replace the existing regulations and orders and should be read in conjunction with the Export Control Act 2020 (the Act).

The new legislative framework will commence on 28 March 2021.

The draft rules contains a set of individual rules for various commodities which make up the entire suite of draft rules.
