Cricket Australia today announces the upcoming Marsh One-Day Cup, Marsh Sheffield Shield, WNCL and international tour matches, completing the 2019-20 summer of cricket schedule.
Marsh, through its acquisition of JLT in April 2019, has a long-standing relationship as the Official Risk Partner to Cricket Australia and has been the naming rights sponsor of the Marsh One-Day Cup and Marsh Sheffield Shield since 2017 (previously JLT).

Among the changes to the domestic season is a revamped Marsh One-Day Cup – with teams playing four matches before the Sheffield Shield fixtures begin and a further three throughout October and November before the final on 26 November.
The other major change is the expansion of the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), with teams each playing eight matches, compared to just six in previous seasons.
Commenting on the fixture, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations Peter Roach said:
“We’ve listened to the states, territories, the ACA and players on what is going to make our cricket system stronger,” Roach said.
“The changes to this year’s schedule for both the Marsh One-Day Cup and WNCL are really exciting and something we worked hard to get right.
“It’s vitally important that the women’s game continues to grow, so we’re really pleased to increase the WNCL season by seven matches to go alongside the standalone rebel WBBL|05.
“For the men’s One-Day Cup, the key priorities were to play matches in more than one block, have them played on bigger grounds, ideally at our major venues, and play some more matches overall. We believe we have been able to meet these priorities.
“From a timing point of view, we need to ensure that we play matches at times of the season to best present and prepare our players for international cricket. At the same time, we need to ensure there is appropriate rest periods between matches and the right opportunities for players to participate in Premier cricket.
“We’ve tried to schedule Sheffield Shield games most effectively around the Test matches, with a Shield round starting as late as we can pre-Christmas to get it as close to the Perth Test, Boxing Day Test and Sydney Test as we can before the KFC Big Bash League season starts.”
WNCL highlights:
- Starts September 21 with final on February 16.
- Each state plays eight matches in an extended WNCL season,
- More consistent matches throughout January and February, complementing a stand-alone Women’s Big Bash League this summer,
- Final on February 16 between first and second on the table, with higher placed team to host.
Marsh One-Day Cup highlights
- Starts September 21 with final on November 26,
- Extended regular season with seven matches per team,
- Finals format to replicate the Marsh Sheffield Shield with the final to be played between first and second,
- 13 of the 22 matches to be broadcast on Foxtel and Kayo Sports,
- First domestic one-day match at Metricon Stadium on October 31,
- Marsh One-Day Cup returns to the SCG and MCG this season with five matches to be staged at Test venues.
Marsh Sheffield Shield Highlights
- Competition starts October 10 with the season finale beginning on March 27,
- Four matches at the SCG for the first time since 2016-17,
- Like last season, each state will again play six Shield matches prior to Christmas to allow for a better crossover with home Test matches,
- Teams are awarded 0.01 bonus points for every run scored above 200 in the first 100 overs of the first innings and 0.1 for every wicket taken inside the first 100 overs of the opposing team’s first innings,
- The bonus points system has been retained for the five-day final after it was first used in last season’s final between defending champions Victoria and New South Wales.
Tour Matches
The England Lions men’s team will tour Australia during February and early March, playing five one-day matches and three four-day fixtures.
The England Lions play Australia A, a Cricket Australia XI and NSW Second XI teams in eight matches across the one-day and four-day formats.
The tour starts in Brisbane with a training camp for the Lions’ at AB Field, before one-day matches in Queensland and Sydney, followed by three four-day fixtures.
The Lions play the first of their four-day matches at Blundstone Arena, Hobart, against a Cricket Australia XI from February 15 to 18.
They will then travel to the MCG to play Australia A before concluding their tour against a NSW second XI at North Dalton Park in Wollongong.
India A women’s team will also tour Australia in December. They will play the Australia A women’s side in three one-day and three T20 matches in Brisbane and the Gold Coast respectively during December.
Pakistan men’s team will also play tour matches in addition to two Test matches and three T20 Internationals.
Pakistan will play a CA XI in a T20 practice match at Bankstown Oval on October 31 before travelling to Perth for a three-day match against Australia A at Optus Stadium, Perth, starting November 11 and a two-day fixture against a Cricket Australia XI at the WACA Ground before the first Test at the Gabba.
