Extra 129,000 Emirates seats to boost WA tourism sector

  • Emirates to launch second daily flight to Perth from December
  • Service to bring extra 129,000 inbound seats to Western Australia
  • Cements Perth’s status as Australia’s Western Gateway
  • Supported by the Western Australian Government in partnership with Perth Airport

Emirates has announced they will relaunch a second daily flight between Dubai and Perth from December.

The resumed service will bring more than 129,000 new inbound seats to Western Australia every year.

The flight is proudly supported by the WA Government through the $75 million Aviation Recovery Fund, in partnership with Perth Airport.

It will operate on a 777-300ER alongside Emirates’ existing A380 once-daily service.

Dubai serves as an international transport hub and this returned service will provide further flight options for travellers from WA’s priority tourism markets, including Continental Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States, during WA’s peak summer season.

Latest figures show Perth’s international aviation capacity has now recovered to 94 per cent of pre-COVID levels (as of December 2023), with the State on track to restore aviation capacity in full before the end of the financial year.

WA’s status as Australia’s Western Gateway has grown exponentially in the past year, with multiple direct flight connections now secured with 19 global destinations.

WA is the only Australian state or territory with non-stop aviation connections with the United Kingdom and Continental Europe, through services between Perth and London, Rome, and the soon-to-launch Paris service.

As stated by Acting Tourism Minister John Carey:

“Today’s announcement represents another important step forward in rebuilding WA’s aviation capacity and further strengthens Perth’s global reputation as the Western Gateway to Australia.

“Securing additional direct aviation services is absolutely vital to driving more travellers to our State, injecting visitor spend into our economy, and creating jobs in the tourism and hospitality industries

“We’re really proud to have brought back or secured new non-stop flights to 19 global cities since borders reopened, and this is just another vote of confidence in WA as a tourism destination.”
