Extra funding for McLaren Vale Hospital

The Marshall Liberal Government has delivered on its commitment to invest $500,000 in the McLaren Vale District War Memorial Hospital.

State funding previously slated for a new solar panel system will now be put in the hands of local hospital management after a community grant from AGL Energy was provided for the solar panels.

During a visit to the hospital today, the Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said it was up to management to determine the best use for the funding.

“We are absolutely committed to improving infrastructure and services within regional health services and this is yet another example of our unwavering dedication to local communities,” Minister Wade said.

“We are empowering the board of management and staff at McLaren Vale to make the best decisions for their patients based on demand, future population growth and sustainability.

“We are committed to improving South Australia’s regional and peri-urban health services, which not only eases pressure on major sites, but also delivers care closer to home for locals.

“Future service and infrastructure improvements to McLaren Vale will help ensure we continue to deliver innovative, world-class care to improve the health and wellbeing of our local communities.”

McLaren Vale Hospital is a community-owned, not–for-profit hospital which provides services to public patients through a contract with SA Health.

Board Chair of McLaren Vale Hospital, Mr William Dollman said the funding was pivotal for future upgrades and equipment as well as looking at opportunities to enhance services for the local population.

“I am looking forward to working closely with my board members as we reconsider how the $500,000 would be best utilised,” Mr Dollman said.

“Whatever decision is made it needs to have patients’ priorities at the centre and also optimise future opportunities.

“We’ll take a number of factors into consideration, but we look forward to continuing to provide a high-quality community-owned health service to our local community.”
