Extreme heat consultation to inform Monash Climate Response Plan

Monash Council is seeking feedback from its community and stakeholders on how to work together to better prepare for and cope with extreme heat.

Residents, businesses, and community groups within Monash can participate in the conversation on extreme heat, using an exciting new platform called Polis, which helps communities to discuss in an interactive and engaging way.

Consultation is being done with researchers from The University of Melbourne and will help inform the development of a future Monash Climate Response Plan.

Mayor, Cr Nicky Luo said a future Monash Climate Response Plan would help Council to build community resilience as we face future extreme heat events.

“Extreme heat and extreme heat events impact our health, community infrastructure and services, especially those most vulnerable in our community,” said Cr Luo.

“We want to ensure we can help build the resilience of our community as we face extreme heat events so we can thrive as a community and stay safe.”

Monash Council is already working hard to reduce its impact through its Zero Net Carbon Action Plan, Environmental Sustainability Strategy and the Monash Health and Wellbeing Plan.

Consultation on Extreme Heat is open from Monday 29 January to Monday 4 March 2024, with comments to close on Tuesday 27 February.
