Sporting clubs and organisations across Corangamite Shire can apply for grants of up to $7,500 through the Facility Design Grants program.

The funding provides assistance to clubs and organisations to develop designs for future improvements to facilities.

Sports and Recreation Coordinator Jane Hinds said Council approved $30,000 for the grant program in its 2023-2024 Budget.

“This funding will support organisations to develop designs that can be used for applications to future grant programs,” Ms Hinds said.

“It will help organisations pay for schematic designs or quantity surveyor costs to redevelop their facilities, or to plan new ones, where communities conduct, organise and participate in sport and recreation.”

Mayor Ruth Gstrein said the grants program would help clubs strengthen participation.

“Providing improved facilities for participants and officials helps build strong club cultures on and off the field and the court.

“Council is committed to supporting opportunities for people to engage in healthy and active lifestyles, and to providing high-quality community facilities,” she said.

“In rural communities like ours, where the population is quite dispersed, being able to come together through shared interests in sporting and cultural activities and is vital to social connections and wellbeing.”

Applications are now open and will be accepted until 5 pm Friday 3 November.

To ensure the best chance of success, applicants are encouraged to discuss their project with the Facilities and Recreation team on 5593 7100.
