Northern Grampians Shire families to gain greater access to three-year-old kinder under new reforms
Northern Grampians Shire are just one of six local government areas who will benefit from greater access to three-year old kindergarten services from 2020, via the Victorian Government’s Ready For School: Kinder For Every Three-Year-Old reforms.
Premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews visited Marrang Kinder in Stawell earlier today to discuss the reforms, which will give families access to partly subsidised, or in some cases fully subsidised three-year-old kinder.
Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “We’re incredibly excited for our shire to be one of just six across the state to get early access to the subsidised three-year-old kinder reforms.”
“It’s going to mean that our children will have a major head start in their learning and development with the extra year of kinder, not to mention a whole lot of fun as well.”
“I’d like to also take this opportunity to thank our hard working kinder teachers, who are fully capable of implementing this new program, which will give our young children a tremendous start to their education.”
The state government will invest almost $5 billion over the next decade as part of the reforms, with around a quarter of Victorian families getting access to three-year-old kinder free of charge, while families with a higher income will have 65% of their three-year old kinder costs covered.
Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews said, “We said we’d deliver three-year-old kinder, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. This is about ensuring kids have the very best start in life and saving families when it comes to the cost of early childhood education.”
“Universal access to three-year-old kinder is the biggest ever reform for the early childhood sector and we’ll work closely with families, teachers and providers to ensure kids get the education they need.”
