Council is inviting the community to enjoy celebrations at Tobruk Memorial Pool, the Marlin Coast Swimming and Fitness in Smithfield, and Babinda Rotary Park this Australia Day.
The events at Tobruk and Smithfield are from 9am to midday, while festivities kick at Babinda will be from 8am to 11am.
Thursday will also take on extra significance for 60 Cairns residents, who will become on Australians.
The citizenship ceremony will be held at Council’s civic rooms and include people from 25 countries of origin, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Czech Republic, Taiwan, and Slovakia.
“I always look forward to citizenship ceremonies because there is no greater demonstration of how lucky we are to live in this country and the desire of thousands of others to do so,” Cr Manning said.
