Family Harm Coordination Project

A new project has commenced in Alice Springs in line with the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES) domestic, family and sexual violence strategy within Project 2030: Back to Basics to set our future.

The Family Harm Coordination Project (FHCP) will initially focus on domestic violence incidents within the Alice Springs and Southern Desert Divisions.

The project will commence with an internal audit function of all domestic violence incidents involving intimate partner relationships, ensuring our response aligns with our organisational values and policies and that appropriate referrals are made to external stakeholders.

NT Police are committed to preventing and reducing domestic, family and sexual violence and working with our partners to build a future free from violence.

Amongst our key priorities are to:

  • Respond to victims consistently and compassionately
  • Partner with other agencies and the community to target driving factors

Detective Superintendent Kirsten Engels who is leading the project said “all intimate partner domestic violence incidents will be audited by members of the Family Harm Coordination Project.

“Where further immediate action is required, this will be implemented by the FHCP in order to ensure key lessons are reinforced and training needs addressed.

“Our officers work incredibly hard 24/7 and deal with incidents that include extremely high levels of violence. We always aim to act with professionalism and empathy.”
