Farming households thriving on nbn Network

Julia Hausler with her friends Kate and Rebecca in Warracknabeal in Wimmera, VIC sat down over a cup of tea to discuss how the nbn Network as changed their lives on-farm for the better.

Julia and her husband have been farming for almost 20 years and rely on strong connectivity to for both their farm and their home.

“My husband uses GPS autosteer and we run farm data programs to track our progress and communicate with our agronomist.

“We are able to run a lot of programs all at once like various maps, accounting software, downloading large documents, tracking stock in real time and making trade deals in real time.

“We were connected to the nbn in October 2015. The minute it was available I was onto it. It has made such a difference to our lives,” she said.

Kate runs her own advertising agency that specialises in rural customers in the town Warracknabeal.

“Because we are regionally base, good connectivity is essential to communicate with our clients nationally and internationally and dealing with large artwork files.

“I’ve found the nbn Network to be fantastic. I find that I’m paying less and I’m getting equal, if not better, access to the internet,” she said.

Rebecca does all of the book-work for her and her husbands cereal cropping business.

“I rely on the internet to pay the bills and all of the accounting. Having reliable internet access has saved me a lot of time and can spend more time at home with my two kids.

“Before we had reliable internet I would have to go to the bus station and screen shot all of our transactions so that when I went home I would work off the screenshots on my phone to key in all of the data. It was so frustrating.

“Now every time I turn the computer on, it works. I wouldn’t know what I would do without it now,” she said.
