FECCA welcomes new chairperson, executive committee

The Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA), the peak body for multicultural Australia, held its AGM and elections on Wednesday 15 June 2022 and is pleased to announce the new elected officers as follows:

  • Chairperson: Mr Carlo Carli (VIC)
  • Senior Deputy Chairperson: Mr Peter Doukas OAM (NSW)
  • Senior Deputy Chairperson: Ms Jill Morgan AM (VIC)
  • Hon Treasurer: Mr Emanuel Valageorgiou (NSW)
  • Hon Secretary: Dr Edwin Joseph (NT)

These new elected officers will join the Chairs of each State and Territory representatives to form the new FECCA board.

Mr Carli takes on the leadership of FECCA, having for years been a member of the Victorian Parliament. He has been an advocate of multiculturalism, access and equity, human rights, and has considerable skills in management, governance, and community development.

Mr Carli is fluent in Italian, Spanish and English and is conversationally competent in French.

“Australia is moving toward an era of complexity and intersectionality it has never seen before, where multiculturalism and diversity are mainstreaming,” said Mr Carli.

“I am fortunate to be in a leadership position to help effect positive social change. FECCA is at the right place at the right time and will be needing resources to grow and expand its invaluable work.

“I thank Ms. Mary Patetsos as the immediate past Chairperson, for her leadership and service to FECCA and multicultural communities.

“Coming off the hugely successful FECCA 2022 National Conference, the new executive officers of FECCA, along with our CEO and staff, will harness the energy, commitments and recommendations, to advance multicultural Australia much further along,” said FECCA’s new chairperson.
