Festival-goers urged to celebrate safely at Centennial Park, NSW

Police are urging festival-goers to stay safe and be responsible ahead of the Listen Out Music Festival at Centennial Park tomorrow (Saturday 5 October 2019).

A high-visibility operation will be in place involving officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command with assistance from specialist officers including the Dog and Mounted units, Licensing Police and Traffic Control.

Eastern Beaches PAC Commander, Superintendent Rohan Cramsie, said police have been working closely with event organisers to ensure the safety of event staff, performers and music fans throughout the one-day festival.

“We are expecting a large number of people at Saturday’s music festival. To minimise anti-social behaviour, we will have a strong presence at the venue and surrounding areas. Police will be targeting the supply and possession of drugs and any other criminal activity.

“Those thinking of bringing prohibited drugs into the event are reminded there will be overt and covert police patrols.

“Our plan is not to wreck anyone’s fun but to create a safe space for all festival-goers, where they can enjoy the performers and the long weekend spring atmosphere,” Supt Cramsie said.

Police officers will also be able to hand out Drug Criminal Infringement Notices (CINS) of up to $400 for illegal drug possession offences under a new trial introduced by the NSW Government.

Medical facilities will be available at the event; and anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or who feels unwell, is urged to seek professional medical attention.
