The grass roof of the Orange Regional Museum is the backdrop for an event this week to highlight the impact of breast cancer in the Orange community.

The Orange Pinnacle Dragons Abreast dragon-boating club and Orange City Council is inviting all community members to show support and pay tribute to people in our community affected by breast cancer.

On Saturday 14 October 2023, local residents of Orange and their families will come together for the Field of Women event to boost awareness of the disease, which affects twenty thousand Australians each year.

The event will include a Pink Lady Silhouette ceremony, where survivors and affected family members will place a cut out of a pink lady into the grassed roof of the Orange Regional Museum in memory of those close to them or to reflect on their own personal journeys.Orange

Deputy Mayor, Gerald Power said it’s important to bring people together to spread awareness about a disease that touches so many Australians.

“In one way or another, we all know someone who has been affected by breast cancer,” Cr Power said.

“This event is important as it gives those who have been affected personally and those around them the chance to come together and support one another through tough times.”

President of the Pinnacle Dragons Abreast Dragon Boating Club, Sharon Cooper says she’s looking forward to seeing those who have been affected by breast cancer, come together at the Field of Women event.

“An event like this is a great way to bring us all together,” Ms Cooper said.

“It’s also a way for us to promote our local Dragon Boating Group which is specifically aimed at getting those who have been affected by breast cancer, exercising together in the outdoors. Our books are always open to new members.”

Orange residents who have either been diagnosed or have had family/friends affected by breast cancer are invited to attend the ceremony at 10am on Saturday morning. A small morning tea will follow the silhouette ceremony.
