Financial Crimes Squad detectives charge third person allegedly involved in stealing $600,000 from elderly man

Financial Crimes Squad detectives have charged a third man allegedly involved in stealing more than $600,000 from an elderly man under Strike Force Borlase.

Strike Force Borlase was established in 2025 by State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad to investigate two men accused of convincing an 88-year-old man to grant them access to his online bank account and credit card.

Over the course of a year, the men allegedly spent more than $600,000 of the victim’s money, including buying shares and transferring funds to themselves and others.

Two people have since been charged and remain before the courts.

Following further extensive inquiries, about 5.50am today (Thursday 16 July 2026) strike force detectives arrested a 26-year-old man in Voyager Point.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

The 26-year-old was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday 16 July 2026).

Detectives will allege in court the man assisted in trading $32,000 of shares from the victim’s money, to purchase products online.

Strike Force Borlase inquiries are ongoing.
