The 79-bed Osborne Park Hospital expansion is one step closer to becoming a reality following the release of artists’ impressions of the interiors of new facility.

Delivered by international construction company Webuild as part of the $1.8 billion New Women and Babies Hospital Project, the expansion will boost capacity and deliver more health care closer to home for women and families in Perth’s northern suburbs.

Construction at the Osborne Park Hospital expansion site is making steady progress, with piling complete and the first of three tower cranes installed.

The project will add a new six-storey clinical block, and a smaller four-storey support services block

Contained within these facilities are new maternity, neonatal and critical care beds, as well as a maternal assessment unit, birth rooms and induction suites, a mother baby unit to support the mental health of expectant and new mothers, a family birth centre, operating theatres, a new pharmacy and a range of outpatient clinics.

The new support services building will include a new kitchen, pathology and sterilisation services which will benefit the entire hospital.

The proposed design of new facilities at Osborne Park Hospital has been carefully developed to support the wellbeing of both patients and staff and seamlessly integrate with the existing surrounds.

The colour palette draws inspiration from Whadjuk Noongar Country, incorporating soft pink and ochre tones, and greens inspired by the local wetlands andthe filtered light of local tree canopies.

Ochre tones reflect the colours of Country and recognise the longstanding cultural significance of ochre for Noongar people.

The final design stage is underway and will be completed later this year.

The expansion forms part of the Cook Labor Government’s record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure – the biggest hospital program in the State’s history – delivering more beds and expanded health services for Western Australians.

The expansion facilities are expected to open in 2029.

As stated by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey:

“The expansion will add 45 additional hospital beds to Osborne Park Hospital, provide new maternity and neonatal clinical facilities and add new support services that will benefit the entire hospital.

“This expansion will provide more services and choice for women and families in the northern suburbs and is part of our record $5.5 billion health infrastructure program”.”

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

“The Cook Labor Government is putting WA first by investing in the health infrastructure our growing State needs, delivering more capacity and better access to high-quality care closer to home.

“This major expansion will give women and families in Perth’s northern suburbs more services and more choice, including new maternity and neonatal facilities and a dedicated family birth centre offering women with low-risk pregnancies a more relaxed, home-like environment to give birth.”
