Five youths arrested after pursuit in stolen vehicle at Oxley, NSW

Five teenage boys have been charged followed an alleged police pursuit in a stolen vehicle in the Oxley Police District yesterday.

About 6.30am (Tuesday 1 March 2022), officers attached to Oxley Highway Patrol initiated a pursuit with a stolen grey Peugeot sedan in Calala, before it was terminated in South Tamworth.

Shortly after, police located the sedan in a paddock off Scott Road, near the western bank of the Peel River.

Following a search of the area, five teenage boys – two aged 15, two aged 13 and one aged 14 – were arrested on the eastern side of the river.

During the arrest, one 15-year-old allegedly bit a police officer on the hand.

The youths were taken to Tamworth Police Station where they were all charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner

One 15-year-old was also charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.

One 13-year-old was also charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner, and never licensed person drive vehicle on road.

Police will allege the youths stole a number of cars, including the Peugeot from a home on Napier Street, Tamworth, on Monday 28 February 2022.

The 14-year-old boy, as well as one of the 13 and 15-year-old boys, were also charged with breach of bail.

All five youths will appear in a children’s court today (Wednesday 2 March 2022).
