Flood Recovery Assistance

Flood waste area - Waste Management FacilityThe Hawkesbury City Waste Management Facility will accept flood waste free of charge starting tomorrow, Saturday, 13 April from Hawkesbury residential properties impacted by the recent floods. Hawkesbury City Council requests residents who are attending the Waste Management Facility to show patience, kindness, and respect to all onsite staff. Traffic control will be in place over the weekend.

Flood waste should not contain prohibited items like soil, fibro, or asbestos. Loads will be checked at the weighbridge as usual. Loads containing asbestos or any other prohibited waste will be rejected. These cannot be accepted even if it is flood waste.

The Waste Facility is open to Hawkesbury LGA residents from 8am to 4pm, 7 days a week (excluding Public Holidays). Please bring proof of address such as a Driver’s Licence or Rates Notice. Please note that charges apply for all other waste that is not flood waste and for residential properties that are not flood affected.

Hawkesbury City Council continues to run active Community Hubs to help residents in the Hawkesbury. Flood recovery assistance for the recent flood in April 2024 is now being specifically offered at the Wilberforce Community Hub at the Wilberforce School of Arts at 531 Wilberforce Rd, Wilberforce on Wednesdays. In addition to Council’s ongoing Community Hubs run by Council’s Community Partnerships team, there is also a Pop Up Flood Recovery Centre at Windsor Function Centre set up by the NSW Reconstruction Authority.

The NSW Reconstruction Authority is currently operating face-to-face flood recovery support to individuals, families and businesses at Windsor Function Centre, 7 Dight Street, Windsor. It is open Saturday, 13 April from 10am to 4pm. For current dates and times, visit www.service.nsw.gov.au/services/recovery-centres Help is also available at the Recovery Centre for residents who need additional clean-up assistance.

The Flood Recovery Centre brings together NSW and local government agencies, community organisations and welfare bodies under one roof. Multi-agency recovery centres provide access to important support services for disaster-affected individuals, families, farmers and business owners to help them heal and begin the clean-up and recovery process.

People needing flood recovery assistance can access accommodation advice, financial assistance, legal advice, mental health and wellbeing services, support for businesses and referral services.

Attendees can also access mental health first aid and meet with a range of not-for-profits, and Government and community organisations, including:

Alternatively, assistance is also available for anyone who is not able to attend via www.nsw.gov.au/emergency/floods/recover or by calling Service NSW on 13 77 88 for remote assistance on Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm.

NSW Reconstruction Authority personnel will work with Councils and government agencies including Transport for NSW, NSW Public Works and the Environment Protection Authority to assess impacts and to coordinate any additional funding that may be required.

The NSW and Australian Governments have made a disaster declaration for the flood affected Local Government Areas, opening up access to a range of special assistance measures for flood-affected communities, provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
