As we approach the final runway to the medtech conference of the year, AusMedetch 2023, those in medical devices and diagnostics are invited to register and get involved, to pitch, partner, network and learn what’s on the horizon for the medtech industry.
Expecting more than 400 delegates, the medtech industry will gather in Adeliade 24 – 26 May for a programme jam-packed with over 100 expert speakers. Hear from leading medtech figures, including Professor Anton van den Hengel, who will talk about ‘ChatGPT, LLMs, and why they really matter’.
Director of Applied Science at Amazon & Director of the Centre for Augmented Reasoning at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML), The University of Adelaide, Professor Hengel will deep dive into the world of artificial intelligence and the effect it will have on the Australian Medical Technology industry.
AI models like ChatGPT are getting a lot of attention due to the amazing things they can do and the mistakes the models make while doing so. The question for the Australian Medical Technology industry is how we will respond to these challenges, and opportunities?
What’s really interesting about these ‘foundation models’, however, is that they decrease the human effort required to solve complex problems. In medicine this means:
- A massive reduction in the amount of human-labelled data required to develop an AI-based solution, to the point where some problems will be solvable based on a single example.
- A significant reduction in the cost of developing an AI-based medical solution, and maintaining it.
- A new generation of natural-language interfaces that patients can’t distinguish from humans.
