A four-day proactive, high-visibility road patrol operation in the Logan District has resulted in police laying 80 charges for multiple offences.
Operation Titus, which ran from 4pm Thursday July 30 to 11pm Sunday August 2, saw officers from Browns Plains, Logan Central, Springwood, Crestmead and Jimboomba station intercept vehicles at stationary road set-ups in suburbs including Forestdale, Browns Plains, Boronia Heights, Berrinba, Slacks Creek and Marsden.
In total, close to 2,000 drivers were breath-tested resulting in a total of 80 charges being laid, including:
- 14 x unlicensed drivers
- 10 x drink driving (six low-range, four mid-range)
- 12 x drug-related offences (possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils)
- 2 x high speed driving (149kph / 100 zone, 128kph / 80 zone)
Police also issued 55 traffic infringement notices for various offences including driving while using a mobile phone, learner driver’s driving unaccompanied, driving a defective vehicle, driving an unregistered vehicle, speeding, failing to stop at a red light and other offences.
In one matter, around 8.45pm on Friday (July 31) police intercepted a vehicle at the intersection of Bryants Road and Mandew Street, where they allegedly seized a quantity of methylamphetamine, suboxene, drug utensils and more than $10,000 cash.
A 25-year-old Warwick woman was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, one count of possess utensils, one count of possess tainted property and one count of possess property suspected of having been used in a drug offence. She is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 20.
Senior Sergeant Michael Leafe said police across the district continue to take targeted, proactive measures to ensure the safety of the local community.
“As a result of this operation numerous people will now face court for alleged offences that, in many cases, could have significantly harmed innocent members of the community.”
