Framing respect around state

‘It starts with respect’ showcases CFA’s engagement with Aboriginal communities around the state.

Framing respect around the state

CFA’s Aboriginal Engagement Guidelines revolve around these three principles: Respect, Together and Integrity.

CFA Brigades are implementing CFA’s Aboriginal Engagement Guidelines and the Koori Inclusion Action Plan (KIAP) across Victoria. Brigades from Barmah, Snake Valley, Echuca and Rochester (along with many others) have been putting KIAP into action, and the stories have been captured in a new film which revolves around a common theme of respect.

The ten-minute film brings to life CFA’s Aboriginal Engagement Guidelines, and their showcased stories are just a small selection of what is happening across CFA as the KIAP enters its sixth year of implementation.

The Guidelines, first launched in August 2018, provide helpful tips and information to assist CFA members on engaging with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in their districts.

CFA and the Aboriginal communities share a culture of fire, and a respect of fire that underpins an important connection to each other and to the land.

As we come to the end of NAIDOC week 2019, this film is a reminder of the collective effort that CFA is making to improve our connections and relationships with the Traditional Owners of this land, and inspire others to get involved.
