Geelong’s free adult mental health service has a new purpose-built permanent site at 8 -16 Station St, Norlane.
Geelong Head to Health provides free mental health care using a combination of lived experience and clinical support on-site.
Adults in crisis will receive immediate support and short to medium term care is available for those with moderate to severe mental health needs. People will also be connected to longer term care if needed.
People can attend the centre without a referral or appointment and all services are free of charge. The centre is staffed by a multidisciplinary team including a general practitioner, nurses, peer workers and community workers.
Geelong Head to Health was one of an initial eight centres set up to trial the concept across Australia. Since it opened at an interim site for virtual service delivery and outreach services in December 2021, more than 2900 clinical sessions have been provided. More services will be available from the permanent site.
The service is fully funded by the Australian Government with $4.08 million a year in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
Interpreting services will also be available at this adult mental health service through the
Australian Government’s recent investment in Translating and Interpreting Services.
