As clean-up efforts continue after the wild storm last weekend, Council is offering Byron Shire residents who have large amounts of debris, such as tree branches and leaves, an opportunity to dispose of the green waste for free at the Byron Resource Recovery Centre (BRRC).

The storm, which hit on Saturday evening (4 December), kept SES volunteers and Council busy with staff called in to help clear roads and check damage to Council buildings and infrastructure.

Danielle Hanigan, Manager Resource Recovery said strong winds and rain caused damage in yards and the amount of green waste on some properties is too much for the organic waste bins that are collected once a week.

To help people with their clean-up, Council is offering residents the opportunity to drop off green waste caused by the storm to the BRRC for free until Sunday 12 December.

“This service is only offered for waste generated by the storm,” Ms Hanigan said.

“All the green waste will be processed and treated and turned into high, quality mulch.

Residents will need to bring either a copy of their driver’s licence, rates notice, or utility bill showing their address when they drop off the green waste.

The free green waste disposal is available for residential properties only, not commercial operators.
