Free yoga classes for bushfire-impacted residents

Council’s Healthy Sunshine Coast community outdoor yoga classes at Peregian Springs will be free from Saturday, September 21 until the end of October.

The weekly class is held from 8-9am Saturdays at the ‘Duckpond’ park, The Avenue, Peregian Springs and usually costs $5.

Division 9 Councillor Steve Robinson says he hopes the small gesture will bring a smile to people’s faces following the fires.

“The yoga classes are a wonderful opportunity to come together, enjoy some gentle exercise and meet new people from your neighbourhood,” Cr Robinson says.

“Our community has been through a traumatic and difficult time and this is a chance to take some time out for yourself for an hour.”

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay says outdoor yoga is a great way to help improve your general wellbeing and is known to have positive mental health benefits.

“Outdoor community yoga is one of the most popular activities of our Healthy Sunshine Coast program with people relishing the opportunity to exercise and relax in the beautiful environment we are lucky enough to call home,” Cr McKay says.

The class is run by a qualified instructor and is suitable for adults of all ages and fitness levels.

Pre-registration is not required, simply arrive at 7:45am for an 8am start.
