The airport’s new cargo precinct will support 24-hour freight operations.
The 24-hour cargo precinct at Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) is now open, marking the first operational stage of Australia’s newest airport.
The precinct will significantly boost Sydney’s air cargo capacity, with extensive warehousing space that will ultimately cater for up to 1.8 million tonnes of air cargo each year.
Freight operations will be followed by regular passenger services from 11 am on 25 October 2026, when Jetstar’s sold-out inaugural flight JQ362 takes off from Western Sydney bound for the Gold Coast.
Western Sydney’s new 24-hour airport is the centrepiece of the Australian Government’s nearly $18 billion investment in Western Sydney. This includes the future Western Sydney Airport Metro line and significant road upgrades to Elizabeth Drive, Fifteenth Avenue and Mamre Road, building on the benefits already delivered through the M12 Motorway.
The WSI project has created more than 12,900 jobs, with half of these coming from the local area. More than $500 million has also been invested in Western Sydney-based businesses during major construction, including local tradies, builders, caterers and security guards.
